The miraculous story for the week, begins while Sister Williams and I were doing a service project with Jerry and Sister Davin.
As we scrapped off wall paper (highly recommend it for your triceps) and painting Sister Davin's bathroom, Jerry mentions to us, his good friend who may be staying with them for a while. With that tiny information, he says, "He's not a member and he's looking for a church." If your not aware of the significance of a member referral, imagine a life time pass for free frozen yogurt and Yogurtland and then times it by 15. After doing that, you can kind of understand the music that it brings to a missionary's ears.
That Sunday, Jerry introduces us to the most kind hearted man, Derrick. They mentioned later that he asked if he could come to church with them that week. When the three hours of church were done, Derrick asks if he can take the lessons. We set up a time that week and we anxiously wait until that Wednesday.
If I could only but describe the sweet presence that the Spirit brought in that first lesson. We taught him about the Restoration of the church, and the importance of our message. By the end of the lesson, we got to the point that under the direction of the Spirit, we are told to ask them to be baptized. With my responsibility as a mission mom I am to teach her to build the confidence and extend the commitment. I buttered him as much as I could and gave her the look to ask. ...My adorable, yet nervous companion, asked this 25 year old man, if he would follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized by someone holding the proper authority of God, and I felt the wall of the Spirit flood into that room. Not only that...but I felt the inexpressible joy come when he said, yes.
I have a strong testimony that this is the Lord's work. That he is completely aware of the hardships and high points of this man and what has led him to this point to be so ready to accept this Gospel, fully and totally right now. I have a testimony that we are simply here to present information and allow the Spirit to do the converting. God knows each one of His Children. He knows Derrick and He knows you.
Remember your worth,
